A car fire spread to the surrounding brush area in Campo Monday afternoon, fire authorities said.
The fire reportedly started near Buckman Springs Rd. near the I-8 in Campo at about 3:30 p.m., according to Cal Fire.
The fire fully engulfed a car and then spread to between five and seven acres. As of 4:30 p.m., the fire was located on the westbound side of I-8.
One lane of westbound I-8 is closed for fire equipment, according tothe U.S. Forest Service.
No injuries or evacuations were reported.
As of about 5 p.m., the Incident Commander released some of the fire equipment needed to battle the flames, and firefighters appeared to be making good progress on the fire.
