Officials at San Diego's water board will decide this week whether to spend tens of thousands of dollars to explore the possibility of building a desalination plant south of the border, according to a published report.
At question is whether the San Diego County Water Authority will commit to a $30,000 feasibility study of constructing a plant in or near Rosarito, the voiceofsandiego.org reported. The plant being studied would be about the same size as the one being considered for Carlsbad, which could potentially produce enough water for 112,000 homes.
An obvious advantage of a Mexican desal plant is a shorter permitting process.
