Calif. Politics May Get Massive Overhaul

After an exhausting effort to fix California's budget deficit, political reformers are debating a novel idea -- to end the state's perpetual political gridlock.  Some people in Sacramento want to rewrite the state constitution to change how California governs itself.

Among the suggestions brought to the table --scrapping term limits for legislators, re-draw political districts, and combine the two houses of the state Legislature.  Also, to get rid of all those statewide propositions and end the two-thirds majority needed to pass a state budget or approve new taxes.

California voters would first need to approve an initiative allowing a constitutional convention and then decide who gets to participate.
