The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) formalized its rejection of a new natural gas pipeline proposed to travel from Rainbow to Miramar.
NBC 7 first reported in May that a CPUC judge denied San Diego Gas & Electric’s proposal to build a 47-mile long, 36-inch diameter pipeline to deliver natural gas.
San Diego, Escondido, Poway, unincorporated San Diego County and federal land was in the pipeline's route.
On Thursday, the five-member commission voted to finalize the judge’s ruling.
The pipeline named Line 3602 would’ve traveled along Pomerado Road. At an estimated cost of $639 million, the new pipeline was designed to replace a 16-inch pipeline currently in use.
The CPUC board determined there was not a need for the proposed pipeline.
