Brush Fire Threatened Power Lines Near Potrero

A brush fire that started in Mexico burned into the United States and threatened power lines just south of Potrero, according to Cal Fire officials.

The fire, burning in the Bell Valley area, had burned about 15 acres on the U.S. side of the border by 1.40 p.m. Saturday. No homes were threatened.

“The forward rate of spread has been stopped. Firefighters will remain on scene for several hours mopping up,” said Battalion Chief Nick Schuler at 3 p.m.
