Brush Fire Shuts Down Highway

A brush fire that burned three acres and shut down a highway in Bonsall took firefighters about an hour to put out.

Residents will probably see smoke for a couple more hours as firefighters mop up the hotspots.

“Airtankers have been released from the incident, however one helicopter remains on scene to assist the ground crews,” CalFire spokesperson Nick Schuler said.

A SigAlert was issued just after 2 p.m. on highway 76 from Vista Way to Camino Del Rey, according to CHP officer Rob Sanchez. Traffic was diverted to Old River Road.

“Quick action by the fire fighters prevented this fire from getting established in the brush and becoming a large and damaging fire,” Schuler said.

No homes were threatened. The cause is under investigation.
