Brush Fire Reported in Mission Valley

Firefighters were called to the report of a brush fire in Mission Valley near Qualcomm Stadium Monday morning.

Smoke rose from the area along Friars Road and Mission Village Drive just after 10 a.m. Monday.

The fire was located on an embankment near structures officials said. The size of the fire covered approximately 1/4 of an acre.

San Diego police officers evacuated some nearby residents, but by about 10:42 a.m., firefighters reported the fire was knocked down.

The fire was started by a discarded cigarette, most likely from a passing car, according to Maurice Luque with the San Diego Fire Department.
