Brush Fire Knocked Down Near Jamul

The area is east of Lower Otay Lake, northeast of the Olympic Training Facility and the community of Eastlake.

Firefighters knocked down a brush fire along Otay Lakes Road near Jamul on Wednesday.

The fire began as a structure fire just before 2 p.m. and spread at a moderate rate to nearby grass close to Thousand Trails and Pico Pico campgrounds.

The area is east of Lower Otay Lake, northeast of the Olympic Training Facility and the community of Eastlake.

The fire began as just a few acres, grew to 30 acres at one point before crews were able to extinguish the flames.

An estimated 75 firefighters were called to fight the fire in addition to 17 engines.
