Boy, Man Rescued From Cliff

A 12-year old boy and his uncle were rescued from a cliff near La Jolla Cove Saturday.

Lifeguards said the two were kayaking in the waters around Emerald Cove.  The area is known to have some treacherous waves and the beach is cobblestone with a lot of reefs and rocks.

"It sounds like they came in to take a look, there is a cave here, and they probably wanted to look at that cave and then probably got caught by a surprise wave," Lt. John Greenhalgh said.

Rescuers were able to bring the boy up the cliff.  He was taken to Rady’s Children's Hospital with injuries to his legs.  He also complained of stomach pain.  The 22-year old man suffered from hypothermia.
