Border Patrol Agents Investigate Suspicious Abandoned Boat

The vessel was found beached on the shores of Ocean Beach early Sunday morning

Border Patrol agents are investigating a suspicious sport fishing boat that was found abandoned on the shores of Ocean Beach.

According to authorities, Harbor Police discovered a beached Bayliner-brand Trophy boat near Santa Cruz Avenue and Bacon Street very early Sunday morning.

Border Patrol agent Steven Pitts said agents are investigating the boat, searching the area and trying to locate any individuals who may have been aboard the suspicious abandoned vessel.

A Vessel Assist San Diego employee told NBC 7 that several life vests were found on the boat.

At this point, Pitts,said there is no indication that any drugs were on the vessel, however the boat has been seized by Border Patrol officials for further investigation.

“We believe it may be tied to a maritime smuggling event,” Pitts told NBC 7.
