Border Patrol Agents Rescue Man Lost in Desert for 6 Days

A man lost in the desert for six days was rescued by Border Patrol agents Tuesday.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio Station received a call from the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office telling them of a 911 distress call about a man that said he had illegally entered the U.S six days prior.

The 33-year-old Mexican national had gotten lost since he had crossed into the U.S. near La Rumorosa and told dispatchers he had no water and had resorted to drinking his own urine.

Agents used GPS coordinates from the man’s phone to find him and sent an El Centro Sector Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) Unit along with Indio Station agents to search the nearby area.

Officials found the man at approximately 11 p.m. between the Coachella Canal and Highway 111.

After a medical examination, agents said the man was suffering from dehydration and exhaustion. He was taken to a local hospital.

Since then, the man has been cleared from the hospital. He will be processed for removal from the U.S.
