Border Agent Ejected, Another Trapped in Dramatic Crash

Two border patrol agents were hospitalized Sunday after their car veered off the road and plunged 50 feet down a ravine near Dulzura.

Cal Fire responded to the scene at Honey Springs Road at Mother Grundy Truck Trail Sunday evening.

The vehicle landed upside down -- one agent was thrown from the vehicle the other was trapped, said California Highway Patrol spokesperson Officer Calvin Rodriquez

"Three witnesses state the same thing pretty much-- they heard tires breaking,” said Rodriquez. β€œOne witness saw the vehicle drive off the roadway pretty much so there was no pursuit, nothing the roadway, nothing like that, they just lost control of the vehicle."

The agents were fortunate because the rocks off the road are jagged and they could have been seriously injured, said Rodriquez.

Both agents were air lifted by Mercy Air.  They were treated at Sharp Memorial Hospital and are now recovering at home.
