Booze, Yes; God, No

Lawyers battle in federal court after an East County church was closed after decades in the same building because of a permit issue, according to a published report.

The Guatay Christian Fellowship was, until earlier this year, in a Pine Valley Trailer Park building near Old Highway 80 in Guatay, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. The church had been operating out of the building for for 22 years when it was shut down, according to the paper.

The matter of the closure was heard by a federal judge on Wednesday. A lawyer representing the church told the court the church was wrongly closed because the site was permitted for a bar rather than a house of worship.

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Miller has not yet issued a ruling on the case.
