Marine Lance Cpl. Donald J. Hogan killed in Afghanistan by IED

A Camp Pendleton Marine serving in Afghanistan was killed on Wednesday, according to military officials.

Lance Cpl. Donald J. Hogan, 20, was a resident of San Clemente, Calif., according to the Department of Defense. He was killed in the Helmand province of Afghanistan when a roadside bomb went off, injuring several other Marines as well.

Hogan was a member of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force. A military spokesman said that Hogan was on his first tour of duty when he died.

Hogan joined the Marines in November 2007 and had been awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
