The wreckage of a 30-foot sailboat that crashed Tuesday morning in San Diego’s Mission Beach was quite the sight on the shoreline as spectators gathered near the vessel.
San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) spokesperson Lee Swanson said two passengers aboard the boat were rescued around 5 a.m. when the sailboat ran aground near Jamaica Street.
The passengers were not injured, officials confirmed.
The wreck stayed on the shoreline for several hours as passersby walked on the sand.
A private company was called to remove the vessel. The crew had to wait until after 10:15 a.m. to do so, since that’s when the low tide rolled in, making the removal process safer.
Further details of the boating accident were not immediately released.
