Holiday Decorations Fuel Big Rig Fire

Flames shot into the air from the big rig near the Town and Country Hotel

A big rig filled with Christmas decorations went up in flames in Mission Valley causing some tense moments for firefighters.

The fire sparked behind the Town and Country Hotel near the Fashion Valley Mall just after midnight Monday.

Firefighters say the big rig was filled with Christmas tree display items and other holiday ornaments.

There were some scary moments for crews on the scene when they discovered a hazmat placard on the big rig.

Battalion Chief Ben Castro with San Diego Fire Rescue said the placard was placed on the trailer in error.

Firefighters say they were able to put the fire out in about 15 minutes.

The fire was labeled as arson. Fire investigators estimate the damage at approximately $200,000.

No word on the cause.
