Big Rig Wreck Dangles off SR-94

The 32nd and 30th street on-ramps on eastbound SR-94 were closed to traffic due to the collision

As an 18-wheeler that crashed off State Route 94 dangled off the freeway early Tuesday morning, authorities shut down a busy on-ramp, slowing the morning commute.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials, the driver of a big rig lost control just before 1 a.m. and slammed into a guardrail at the eastbound SR-94 on-ramp at southbound Interstate 15.

The big rig veered off the freeway and traveled partially down an embankment, half of the semi hanging off the roadway.

Officials shut down the on-ramp off 32nd Street to eastbound SR-94, as well as the 30th Street on-ramp. The accident also shut down the westbound and eastbound SR-94 transitions to southbound I-15.

Caltrans crews arrived at the scene just before 4:30 a.m. and planned use heavy-duty equipment to pull the semi-truck up from the embankment. Ramp closures were expected to be lifted shortly thereafter.

Investigators said the driver of the big rig was not injured. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
