Bicyclist Struck, Killed by Truck Cement in San Marcos

A bicyclist was struck and killed by cement truck in San Marcos Thursday morning, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department confirmed.

The fatal accident happened just after 9:30 a.m. at South Las Posas Road and Grand Avenue.

Sheriff's officials said the white cement truck, driven by a 47-year-old man, stopped at a red light before making a right turn from S. Las Posas Road onto east Grand Avenue.

As the cement truck drove into the intersection, a 22-year-old man on a bike also may have entered the intersection against the red light, according to witnesses.

The truck hit the bicyclist and rolled over him with the rear wheels. The man's death was confirmed shortly thereafter.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck was uninjured and remained at the scene of the accident.

Traffic was diverted in the area as officials collected evidence and worked to clear the scene.

The San Marcos traffic unit is still investigating the collision.
