Marching bands and spirit squads from the universities playing in the upcoming San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl will
march through the Gaslamp Quarter Sunday.
The "Battle of the Bands" event gets under way at 6 p.m. along Fifth Avenue before culminating with a marching band expedition at Market Street, according to organizers.
"The Gaslamp Quarter is buzzing with anticipating of hosting two of the finest marching bands in the country, showcasing their considerable skills for the residents and visitors of our fine city," said Jimmy Parker, executive director of the Gaslamp Quarter Association.
It is the first time this event has been held in advance of the annual Poinsettia Bowl.
Tuesday's Poinsettia Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium pits the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs against the undefeated Boise State University Broncos in what should be a bruising game.
