β€œBackdoor Bandit” Learns His Fate

One of the so-called "Backdoor Bandits" will spend more than a decade behind bars for his role in a series of armed robberies

A man involved in a series of armed robberies at restaurants and other businesses in Clairemont, La Jolla and Ocean Beach was sentenced Tuesday to more than 14 years in state prison.

Last month, 23-year-old Ryan Churchill pleaded guilty to more than a dozen charges.

NBC 7’s Vanessa Herrera reports live from Ocean Beach on the spectacular waves.

He's one of four robbers dubbed the "Backdoor Bandits" because they entered the backdoor of a business, fully masked with weapons.

In all, they robbed 13 businesses between May and August 2013.

Two other suspects are set to be sentenced next month.
