Baby Seal Found Wounded in Parking Lot

Cardiff boy discovered baby seal with flipper wound

A boy and his father called 911 early Sunday morning when they discovered a wounded baby seal in a Cardiff parking lot.

The approximately 9-month-old seal sustained a cut on its flipper, and was in danger of being hit by passing cars before the boy and his father found it near the state beach.

Rescuers said the pup is skinny and lethargic, but is now in the care of SeaWorld Veterinarians. They also said the seal is at an age at which it leaves its mother.

It is unknown at this time how the seal became injured.

An animal care specialist with SeaWorld said the vets will focus on hydrating the pup and nursing it back to health.
