Baby Izaiah Now a Big Brother

Mother of child struck by drunk driver in 2010 gives birth to second baby

Izaiah Wallis, the baby struck and paralyzed by a drunk driver in 2010, is a big brother.

Izaiah's mother gave birth to a healthy daughter Tuesday morning, according to a nonprofit organization that supports the family.

Caliah Hazel Wallis, nicknamed Cali, was born 7 lbs. 10 oz. to Jacob and Lucy Wallis.

In October 2010, Izaiah was critically injured when his stroller was struck by a drunk teen driver during a walk with his grandfather.

Since then, Izaiah's condition requires a ventilator, tracheotomy, colostomy and feeding tube. Jacob quit his job to care for him full-time while his mother works.

Izaiah also suffered two bouts of pneumonia. Doctors believe his respiratory problems may be linked to the air inside the family's home, where mold was discovered in the bathroom.

Passion 4 K.I.D.S. fundraised to purchase the family a small handicapped accessible home in Vista. The non-profit has launched an "extreme home makeover" and the family should be moving in soon.

Despite Izaiah's health problems, his parents described his progress as "amazing."
