Hotel Solamar Hosts Fundraiser for 2-Year-Old Battling Leukemia

Hotel Solamar in downtown San Diego is set to host a fundraiser dedicated to a brave, local toddler battling leukemia for the second time.

Ava Foster (pictured below), who’s just 2 years old, has been through a lot in her young life. Currently, the tot is fighting her second round with leukemia.

To help raise funds for Ava’s treatment, Hotel Solamar is holding a special event on Wednesday, Oct. 9, dubbed “Avapalooza.”

The fundraiser runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hotel Solamar’s rooftop lounge, LOUNGEsix, located at 616 J St.

The event will feature tasty dishes prepared by five chefs from different Southern California Kimpton restaurants, specialty cocktails created by renowned bartenders and raffles that include chances to win trips all over the country.

Tickets start at $20, which includes entry, food and drinks. For $50, attendees receive one raffle ticket in addition to entry, food and drinks. For $100, attendees get three raffle tickets. Each individual raffle ticket costs $25. To buy tickets to the event, click here.

All proceeds from ticket and raffle ticket sales go toward Ava’s medical fund and helping her family with out-of-pocket expenses tied to her recovery.

Ava -- who, by the way, "wears princess dresses daily," according to her fundraising website, is the daughter of the general manager of Hotel La Jolla, another local Kimpton Hotel.

When Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants heard that Ava was sick, the company pulled together to organize Wednesday’s special fundraiser.

According to the Foster family’s “Avapalooza” fundraising website, those who are unable to attend the event can still make a difference by donating blood.

Ava's website describes her as a “super sweet, outgoing and fun” toddler who “talks about going to Cinderella’s castle at Disneyland when she gets out of the hospital.”
