Authorities Search for “Beer Gut Bandit”

Authorities hope surveillance photos will help them catch the man responsible for a string of bank robberies.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the four robberies took place this month: July 5 at Wells Fargo in La Mesa, July 16 at U.S. Bank in El Cajon, July 17 at Bank of America in Clairemont and July 20 at Wells Fargo in El Cajon.

In the most recent robbery, officials said the suspect handed the teller a note, demanding cash and threatening to have a bomb.

The robber has been dubbed the “Beer Gut Bandit.” He is described as 200-230 pounds and in his mid-50s. He has black and gray hair with a goatee beard and mustache. He wears glasses with tinted lenses and carries a blue recyclable tote bag.
