Arrest in Otay Mesa West Attempted Kidnapping Case

A man was booked on one felony count of attempted kidnapping and an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.

An arrest has been made in the attempted kidnapping of a middle school student, San Diego police confirmed Friday.

Jose Plascencia, 50, was taken into custody on Dennery Road at approximately 8:30 a.m. Thursday, police said.

Plascencia was booked on one felony count of attempted kidnapping and an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.

A 13-year-old girl walking home from school in Otay Mesa West Tuesday was followed by a man driving a black van.

The van pulled up next to her on Picador Boulevard near Palm Avenue around 5:17 p.m., police said.

The passenger door was opened and a man inside asked the girl if she wanted a ride home. He then grabbed her wrist and tried to pull her inside, police said.

The girl managed to pull away and run home, police said.

A witness came forward and confirmed the girl's report, saying they saw the girl talking to a man in a van, so they made a U-turn to see what was going on. Soon after that, the girl was running from the van, the witness told police.

The girl was a student at Montgomery Middle School and was staying late at school to complete extra credit assignments, according to her uncle.
