50 iPhones Stolen From Chula Vista Verizon Store

Police say the phones are worth about $33,000

Fifty iPhones worth about $33,000 were stolen at gunpoint from a Verizon Wireless store in Chula Vista Tuesday night, police said.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD), at around 8:45 p.m., two armed men made their move on the business located in the 1100 block of Broadway, in the same shopping center as a Costco.

While an employee was placing smart phones inside a safe, one suspect went inside the store and forced that employee into the bathroom, police said.

The second suspect was seen outside the store. The CVPD said about 50 iPhones were stolen and the suspects then fled the scene.

The employee was not injured. As of Wednesday morning, both robbery suspects were still outstanding. No other information was immediately available.

This robbery comes just a day after a similar armed robbery at a Verizon store on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. In that case, which happened around the same time of the night, two armed men wearing hoodies and masks entered the store and stole an unknown amount of merchandise.

It is unknown if the two robberies are linked in any way, but police said it's a possibility.
