Armed Couple Steal SUV, Crash Into Pole: Police

A man and woman carjacked an SUV at gunpoint in Linda Vista on Friday morning and officers gave chase, police said. The woman was arrested but the man got away.

The victim had returned to his residence around 4:45 a.m. in the 6500 block of Lanston Street while his engine was warming up on his black Ford Expedition, according to police.

When he returned he saw the couple inside. One of them was pointing a handgun at him, police said. The couple drove away in the Expedition but they were spotted a short time later by police officers.

Police pursued the Expedition on southbound state Route 163 and into the parking lot of Fashion Valley Mall. The couple eventually crashed into a pole near the JC Penney-end of the mall.

The woman was taken into custody.

The man took off on foot and was last seen running toward the Town and Country Resort Hotel.

Police are looking for a Hispanic man in his 30s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with black hair. He wore a black hoodie and blue jeans, police said.
