Animal Services to Open Shelters 6 Days a Week

The shelters will be open Tuesdays through Sundays for a trial period

County Animal Services plans to open its three regional shelters to the public on Sundays starting on October 23.

Part of a 90-day-project, potential pet owners will be able to look for adoptable animals six days a week. The shelters will still be closed on Mondays.

The results will be evaluated once the trial period ends January 22. If successful, Animal Services will seek funding to make a six-day week permanent starting July 2017.

The shelters will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. They are located on Gaines Street in San Diego, Palomar Airport Road in Carlsbad and Sweetwater Road in Bonita.

All adoptable animals at the shelters are spayed and neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and flea control. The pets also get a free veterinary exam within the first 10 days.
