Amtrak Launches New Express Route

Amtrak is launching a new express train service from San Diego to Los Angeles that could cut travel time by as much as 20 minutes.

The new Pacific Surfliner Express train will stop in Solana Beach, Oceanside, Irvine, and Anaheim with the final stop in Los Angeles. The route eliminates six stops.

Amtrak says it’s hoping to attract more early morning northbound business passengers from San Diego to L.A. with the addition of this express route.

The Pacific Surfliner Express will run Monday through Friday. The first train was scheduled to depart Tuesday at 7:05 a.m. and is due to arrive in Los Angeles right around 9:30 a.m.

Other trains take close to three hours to make the same commute.
