Pacific Beach's Amplified Ale Works Opens Tasting Room in Miramar

Amplified Ale Works will open a brand-new tasting room on Miramar this Friday

A popular Pacific Beach brewery will expand Friday with the opening of a new tasting room in what is arguably San Diego’s most beer-centric community.

Amplified Ale Works will tap the sudsy scene in Miramar – a community commonly known by San Diego craft beer enthusiasts as “Beeramar” – with a 1625-square-foot tasting room at 9030 Kenamar Dr.

The business is located right behind Ballast Point Brewing and Spirits, in a space that houses a seven-barrel brewhouse equipped by local developer, H.G. Fenton Company.

The grand opening starts at 3p.m. On the menu: 12 Amplified beers on tap, plus grub from Scratch BBQ to pair with the pours.

Amplified’s expansion into the Miramar facility means the brewery will be able to produce an additional 1,000 barrels of beer per year.

The Pacific Beach location on Mission Boulevard –opened by owners Alex Pierson and JC Hill in 2012 – houses a three-barrel brewing system. However, Amplified’s beers have gained so much popularity, the Pacific Beach location regularly runs out of product.

This drove Pierson and Hill to scout out a second location for their growing business.

The owners found the Miramar location through H.G. Fenton Company’s Brewery Igniter Program, an initiative aimed at helping small, local microbreweries open businesses in the thriving craft beer scene.

According to the developer, the program provides microbrewers with turnkey facilities equipped with advanced, fully-functional brewing systems and tasting rooms companies can use to reduce their upfront financial investment in a brick-and-mortar location and get their beers on the market and into glasses sooner. H.G. Fenton Company says the program is designed to make craft beer dreams a reality, since launching a brewery from the ground up is expensive and risky for entrepreneurs and investors.

To that end, Amplified Ale Works’ Miramar tasting room is the second turnkey beer business to come out of the Brewery Igniter Program. The first was Pure Project Brewing, which debuted in late January, also in “Beeramar.”

Besides Friday’s grand opening, Amplified is also toasting to its “Whammy Bar Wheat” beer, which recently won a gold medal at the 2016 WorldBeer Cup in the American Style Wheat Beer category. It’s one of the first beers brewed out of the company’s new location. That brew also won two silver medals at the San Diego International Beer Competition.
