Jealousy Led to Carving Attack: DA

A 14-year-old girl – ambushed, beat, kicked, her face carved with a knife and her body stabbed five times in her own Escondido home.

The alleged motive: she liked a boy.

A 14-year-old girl, who is being tried as an adult, pleaded not guilty to the attack on Thursday. Charges of attempted murder, torture and other crimes could carry a potential life sentence. She was ordered jailed on $2 million bail.

Prosecutors say she and another girl ambushed the girl in the victim's home in May and tortured her. They made her shower to wash off the evidence and threatened worse if she told anyone, the North County Times reported.

The girl nearly died.

Authorities say she was targeted because she liked the same boy as one attacker. Prosecutors also want to try the second alleged attacker as an adult.

A 14-year-old boy who went along to the home faces juvenile charges.
