Aggressive ‘Lion Dogs' Trapped After Lockdown

Using traps, tranquilizers and a bean bag shotgun, authorities seized three aggressive dogs found roaming near an elementary school, according to a published report.

All three dogs are chow chows, reported the North County Times. The animals are described by a county animal control lieutenant as a difficult, hairy and aggressive breed. The breed originated in China where it is referred to as Songshi Quan, which literally means "puffy lion dog," according to a dog breed Web site.

The three chow chows reportedly surrounded a schoolteacher at Pauma Elementary School late last week, frightening many in the area, said Ogden Watson, general manager at the Pauma Valley Community Services District.
