The group was aboard a boat spotted by the US Coast Guard around 1:20 a.m.on Tuesday morning. The vessel, which was later determined to be called the Estrella, was beached near Batiquitos Lagoon. There were about 20 people on board when it came ashore, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection representative.

Fifteen Mexican nationals were taken into custody, according to the Border Patrol, and agents are still searching the gated Encinitas community of Grandview for the others

Also on Tuesday morning, a second group of suspected illegal immigrants came ashore at Camp Pendleton at about 7 a.m. The Coast Guard is still searching for the boat that dropped them off, authorities said.

There have been several similar incidents in the past several months -- just a few weeks ago, two boats came ashore overnight in La Jolla and Ocean beach. Officials later said that one of those was loaded with 2 tons of drugs.
