Accused Wrong Way Driver Appears in Court

A man accused of driving the wrong way along Interstate 15 on Saturday night appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday.

Brian Webb, 33, plead not guilty to seven charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter.

The Murrietta resident is also accused of being under the influence while driving.

Investigators said they found open containers of alcohol in Webb’s truck following the deadly collision.

NBC 7 San Diego learned that Webb has a prior DUI conviction on his record. Riverside County court records show he was convicted on a DUI charge in 2007.

The Escondido resident who was killed was Robin Vaughan, 60, a retired doctor. He was a husband, father and grandfather, according to a former colleague.

The judge set Webb's bail at $5 million, and he will appear in court again on Aug. 21 for a readiness hearing.
