Abandoned Pup Finds Forever Home

Puppy will go to a new home just in time for the holidays

The $1,000 puppy that was abandoned after it broke its leg was adopted on Friday. A couple from Santee will be the new owners of “Parker” the Beagle/Boston Terrier mix.

The puppy was brought to a Carlsbad shelter earlier this month by a woman who said an acquaintance had left the injured pup on her porch. Animal Services contacted the original owner and learned the young man had paid $1,000 for the designer "boggle" dog.

But when the dog broke its leg, the owner left it because the surgery would have been too expensive. The Animal Services “spirit fund” paid for the surgery.

The puppy is healing nicely and no longer needs the blue cast on her leg.

Animal Services staff chose the Santee couple to adopt Parker in part because they are eager to care for the dog for a lifetime and can afford to follow-up on her surgery. After interviewing applicants and sharing details about Parker's personality and needs, staff felt the couple was the best match.

Parker went home with the couple Friday morning, who were happy to have the dog in time for the holidays.
