Abandoned Sailboat Drifts Ashore

"Moonstone" mysteriously drifted onto Silver Strand State Beach

An abandoned boat washed ashore at Silver Strand State Beach, surprising onlookers and Harbor authorities.

According to State Parks officials, a sailboat dubbed β€œMoonstone” drifted onto the beach in Coronado either late Friday night or very early Saturday morning. There was nobody onboard.

It is unknown where the sailboat came from or where it was headed.

Authorities said they removed the boat from the shoreline and onto the parking lot to prevent a safety hazard on the beach.

The abandoned boat garnered a lot of attention from onlookers, including Imperial Beach resident Dot Harms.

β€œI was on my way home and to my right I see a large sailboat sitting on the parking lot and I thought either they're selling sailboats or this wind brought something in,” said Harms.

Harbor Patrol is investigating and looking for the owner. At this time, officials do not believe the incident is suspicious.
