A Mother Gone Too Soon

Kristie leaves behind two children

Those who loved her knew her as Kristie.

Friends, family and loved ones gathered at a memorial service in Poway to remember Kristen Bedard on Sunday.

“From the time Kristie could communicate, she had people laughing and smiling,” her father Richard Bedard said at the service.

The 36-year-old single mother was killed instantly on Nov. 23 after being hit by a car traveling along Community Road at Aubrey Street, according to sheriff's deputies.
The car jumped onto the sidewalk and hit Bedard, who was on her way to work, according to her father. Kristen's hours had been cut back and to save money she walked to work even though it took more than an hour. She lived with her children, 14-year old Tyler and 13-year old Kelsey, in a nearby condo.

“She was protective of all her kids, she gave everything she had,” her father said.

Her brother Ricky Bedard also spoke at the memorial service.

“So today as we’re here with heavy hearts and a great feeling of loss, let us remember this is not goodbye,” he said, “Because one day we will see Kristie again, so instead say, we’ll see you later and may you find peace with God.”

The driver arrested after the accident, 44-year old Becky Anderson, faces vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence charges. Anderson was alone in the car and visibly distraught at the scene of the accident deputies said.

A news crew on the scene of the accident spotted deputies removing items from the car including a pill bottle. Kristen’s father said investigators had told him that Anderson had taken Valium and methadone.

Kristen's family is putting together a memorial college fund for her two children. It's being set up through the US BANK under the name Bedard Family Memorial. Donations can be made at any bank. (Acct #153464906541).
