Father Grieves for Slain Teen

Father of murdered teen speaks out at memorial service

Hundreds of people gathered for a memorial at the Pacific Beach Christian Church in honor of Hannah Podhorsky.  The 16-year-old Mission Bay High School student was shot and killed in Mountain View last weekend.

Police are still looking for a suspect in the killing.  So far, no arrests have been made.

The teen's father said his daughter wasn't in a gang but was mixed up with the wrong crowd.  He had powerful words for the teens who attended the memorial.  He's imploring them not to take revenge but to honor his daughter by changing their lives.

The motive for the killing is still unclear but, George Podhorsky said he heard his daughter may have been trying to protect someone involved in a fight.  But he said he wants the violence to stop now.

"It's my understanding there were a couple of these boys that were with her at the time, they want revenge," Podhorsky said. "Not in my daughter's name -- there will be no revenge… What you can do to honor Hannah? Love one another.  What can you do to honor Hannah?  Change your life."

Podhorsky also asked the teens to love their parents, obey them and get home on time.  Hannah Podhorsky’s friend Noemi Robles said she was inspired by his plea.

"He said that we should change in honor of Hannah," Robles said. "And I think I will change for good."
