8-Year-Old Recounts Scary Panda Express Crash That Sent Him to Hospital

An 8-year-old has a long road to recovery after a car crashed into the restaurant he was eating at Wednesday night, sending him to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened Wednesday evening when a car crashed into a Panda Express restaurant, pinning Emilion between the car and a restaurant door frame.

"I couldn't move, 'cause I was like, why is it going up?," Emilio Rissolo told NBC 7 San Diego, recalling the crash. "And I was thinking, so I just got hit."

Emilio will spend a few days in the hospital after surgery on his leg. The accident left him with a huge, bone-deep gash, but thankfully nothing he can't overcome with physical therapy.

Emilio had stopped at the Kearny Mesa Panda Express after gymnastics class at the local YMCA with his mom and brother. The family was throwing away their trash when the car jumped the curb and crashed through the double doors.

"It was like, a half a second chance, to get scared," Emilio recalled.

Luckily, he didn't have to wait long for qualified medical attention, because a trio of doctors and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) on their dinner break rushed over to help. The trio were able to stop the bleeding until an ambulence came.

"He was surprisingly calm during the whole thing, but it was hearing his older brother wailing in terror of what happened," said his mom, Zoe Abrahams.

The driver wasn't cited, according to police, and struggled with her emotions well after Emilio was rushed off to the hospital in an ambulance.

The 8-year-old will spend at least one more night in the hospital before heading home.
