Weekend of Sci-Fi, Superheroes: Comic Fest Wraps Up Three-Day Event

The seventh annual Comic Fest wrapped up its three-day run in Kearny Mesa Sunday. The weekend-long event is similar to Comic-Con; though much smaller, it allows for fans to interact more with content creators.

From Spider-Man and Star Trek to Cthulhu and Elon Musk, fans enjoyed panel discussions, an artist alley, and an exhibition hall full of comic books and other collectibles.

Comic Fest offers a lot of what the bigger conventions have, but without the high prices and the long lines.

“It's good to have conversations because a lot of times at Comic-Con when you start to talk to an artist, someone else comes up and starts asking them questions, so it’s nice to be able to make connections,” said Izzi Seale, a Comic Fest attendee.

A one-day ticket at Comic Fest costs $25 for adults, while a one-day ticket at Comic Con costs $66, according to their websites.

At the Comic Fest Café, this year’s theme celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing. Panels on how science fiction imaged the moon and space travel were hosted as a part of that celebration.

The convention was held at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel on Aero Drive.
