9 People Injured in Rolando Crash

Nine people were injured in a domino-effect crash Monday evening in Rolando, according San Diego police.

The accident happened just before 5:15 p.m. at College Avenue and University Avenue.

According to San Diego police, a speeding car rammed into the back of a vehicle stopped at the intersection, creating a chain reaction. Four vehicles total were involved.

Nine people were taken to various hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The accident also created traffic problems during the evening commute.

Sgt. Art Doherty with the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division said he expects the driver will be charged with DUI.

“There’s a high probability that person was under the influence,” Doherty said.

“There’s just no excuse for drinking and driving on roadways where we have so many people killed a year.”

The crash remains under investigation.
