5 Arrested in Deadly Shooting

San Diego police have arrested five suspects in a 1995 murder of a University of California computer programming analyst with the help of advanced fingerprint technology.

Homicide Lt. Terry McManus said Wednesday that detectives last year resubmitted fingerprint evidence from the fatal shooting of 30-year-old David Hessler, who was killed when he went to investigate a noise outside his University City home.

Technological advances and an expanded database quickly led detectives to a first suspect and then the others.

McManus said Hessler was shot when he interrupted a burglary of his truck at 2:15 a.m. Computer items were later found missing from the vehicle.
