More than 100 suspects were targeted – and 46 arrested – in a two-day North County warrant sweep, including the man suspected of stealing from a Girl Scouts’ donation jar.
Operation Hide and Seek involved more than 100 officers from multiple agencies Thursday and Friday.
Across Escondido and the North County, officers targeted high-risk felons, like those wanted for gang affiliation, weapon charges, sex crimes, armed robbery and homicide.
The goal of the operation was to disrupt criminal activity by arresting those suspected of committing it.
As a result, officers closed 41 felony cases and 5 misdemeanor warrants, took one gun off the street and seized personal-use drugs, including heroin and methamphetamine.
One suspect highlighted by the Marshals -- Jordan Jenkins – had an outstanding warrant for robbery with a firearm after he allegedly shot a man in Spring Valley on Thursday, leaving the man to die. Jenkins was arrested in San Diego later that night.
David Betancourt, 21, was arrested on suspicion of stealing from a Girl Scouts’ tip jar in Escondido. That money was meant to go toward the scouts’ Operation Thin Mint for military troops.
