EPD Locates Family of 4-Year-Old Girl Found Wandering Alone

12/14/17 2:25 p.m. UPDATE: According to Lieutenant Ed Varso of the Escondido Police Deparment, the 4-year-old girl was in the care of her father when she was found wandering.

Police identified him as Esteban Reyes, 27, of Escondido.

According to police, Reyes had been drinking alcohol and fell asleep. That's when the girl wandered away.

Friends and family saw social media and news coverage and gave police the information needed to find the girl's family.

The girl was released to the custody of a grandparent.

Reyes was cited for misdemeanor child neglect.

According to DMV records, Reyes had an accident that was DUI related in September 2016 and had his driver's license suspended 10 days later for excessive blood alcohol level. On that day, he was convicted for DUI. _______________________________________________________________

A four-year-old girl was found wandering through an Escondido neighborhood Wednesday evening, prompting crews to go door-to-door to locate her guardians.

Escondido Police Department (EPD) received a call at about 7:30 p.m. from a resident who said they saw a four-year-old girl wandering the area near 1600 Riva Lane, near Washington Park, EPD said.

Officers were going door-to-door in an attempt to find the girl’s parents.

Just before 11 p.m., Escondido Police said the girl's family had been located.
