Brush Fire Chars 1,000 Acres on Camp Pendleton

A brush fire sparked on the Wilcox Range near the center of Camp Pendleton just before noon Sunday and quickly spread to 1,000 acres, base officials said.

The fire was 100 acres just after noon but grew to 600 acres by 3:30 p.m. and 1,000 acres by 7 p.m.

The Camp Pendleton Fire (CPFD) Department battled the flames with North County Fire assisting.

The fire was fully out by Monday morning, a spokesperson to CPFD said.

The total acres burned stayed at 1,000.

The fire never posed a threat to the public, North County Fire said.
