CBP officers confiscated over 580 pounds of methamphetamine over the weekend

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers intercepted $2.8 million worth of narcotics before they could enter the United States from Mexico over the weekend.

CBP officers stopped 13 methamphetamine and cocaine smuggling attempts from midnight Friday to midnight Monday, according to CBP spokesperson Shalene Thomas.

During those intercepts, more than 580 pounds of methamphetamine and 69 pounds of cocaine were confiscated by CBP.

On Friday, a 41-year-old was stopped at the Otay Mesa Point of Entry when CBP officers noticed a large bulge in his chest.

About 13 pounds of methamphetamine, totaling $42,900, was found wrapped to his body, thigh, and ankle, said Thomas.

The man was traveling with his minor daughter who was turned over to Child Protective Services when he was taken into custody.

Later that night, a 17-year-old was stopped at the San Ysidro POE for a suspicious bump on his back.

Upon inspection, CBP officers found four pounds of methamphetamine, totaling $13,200, according to Thomas.

Other drugs confiscated were found in vehicle seats, quarter panels, spare tires, and more.

CBP officers said they also caught 11 people wanted for various crimes like grand theft, counterfeiting, among other charges.
