23-Year-Old Dies After Being Hit by Car in Oceanside

A 23-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a car in Oceanside, Oceanside Police said.

The crash happened at 5:16 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2017 when police responded to calls of a car and pedestrian crash on State Route 76, just west of Foussat Road.

When officers arrived, they found the woman down on the road; she sustained fatal injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the woman was a passenger in an uninvolved car that had stopped on the side of SR-76.

The woman, who has not been identified, got out of the car and crossed the freeway for an unknown reason.

After she climbed over the center median, she was struck by a car driving westbound on the road. The driver was not under the influence of alcohol, police said.

The victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.

The crash is under investigation.
