22 Homes Burglarized in Rancho Bernardo

According to police, the series of hot-prowl burglaries occur at condos and homes in local retirement communities, while residents are home

Police believe 22 residences in Rancho Bernardo have been part of a string of "hot prowl burglaries" in the area.

Investigators now believe that the two different suspects are responsible for the collective 22 burglaries since November of last year.

The suspects are not believed to be connected. One appears to burglarize in the Seven Oaks area, while the other burglarizes the Oaks North area.

The only suspect information police have at this time is that one is a tall male and the other is a short male.

Last week, police told residents that the burglaries were happening at condos and homes in the area’s retirement communities. Police said the suspect typically gains entry into the victim’s backyard or patio area and enters the homes by removing a screen from an unlocked window or through an unlocked sliding glass door.

Police said it appears the suspect is looking into houses through open windows and spotting purses or wallets in plain view before entering the residence. Once inside, the suspect takes cash from wallets or purses and then leaves.

The burglaries have all occurred between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
