2 Fatal Shootings Outside Same National City 7-Eleven in Less Than 2 Weeks

No arrests have been made, and it's unclear if the two are related

A man was killed in a shooting Sunday outside a 7-Eleven in National City, police said.

The shooting happened around 5 a.m. Highland Avenue and Eta Street, according to National City Police Department.

Authorities believe the victim was either riding or walking his bike on the street when he was shot. He was rushed to UCSD Medical Center where he later died.

Police are still searching for the suspect. This is the second shooting in as many months in the same area.

On March 27, another man was found dead from a gunshot wound in front of the same 7-Eleven. No arrests have been made in that shooting and it’s unclear if the two incidents were related.

Kristian Rodriguez, a National City resident, said the two shootings have him concerned for his safety.

"I don’t know if I should be worried for this to happen again next week," he said. "If this continues we might have to find a better place."

Sean Sampselo said violence in the area is getting out of control.

"It makes me fear for my mom and my girlfriend," he said. "And people who are innocent trying to go where they’re going."

Sampselo said he never expected so many people to die on his street.

"It makes me want to go out and buy a bullet-proof vest," he said.
