Driver Crashes Into Teen on Bike Outside Carlsbad Elementary School

A man lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a teenage bicyclist outside a Carlsbad elementary school Monday.

The car was traveling southbound on College Avenue when it crashed into a 16-year-old girl on a bike near Calavera Hills Elementary School at about 11 a.m., the Carlsbad Police Department (CPD) said.

Carlsbad police said the 64-year-old driver suffered a debilitating medical emergency which caused him to lose control and slam into the girl riding in the bike lane.

Both the driver and the girl were transported to area hospitals. Their condition was not known.

CPD said CPR was administered to at least one person.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
